The hotel Los Almendros, where we stayed was delightful!
A walk around town, starting in beautiful garden overlooking the lake helped us to understand Suchitoto a little better. The artificial lake over which many restaurants, hotels and private homes overlook was called Lago Suchitoto. However, the land overwhich the flooded waters came when the valley was flooded, was compulsorary acquired by the government. No one was compenstaed properly and people became disgruntled with the government. So the name as changed to, Embalse Cerron Grande. It was felt that a name change would make people forget that the land had be compulsorarily acquired.
Suchitito is a beautifuk town, exceptionately clean and calm. There a wonderful theatre in the centre of town. Many famous artists have performed in this auditorium. There are also many galleries and commune artists centres where you can buy beautifully designed and made artisanal gifts.
Lunch was eaten at the Suchitoto market a dining experience to be fully enjoyed for its traditional food styles. It was delicious! We tried typical El Salvadorian food.
The rest of the day meant travelling to Ataco (sometimes called Cencepcion de Ataco).
