Journey to Lake Atitlan

This morning we were collected from our hotel, Hotel Meson de Maria to be transferred to our hotel in Atitlan.
The skies cleared and we had beautiful sunny weather for most of the day. The road took us through magnificent farmland, Floren Grandes, where the best strawberries grow in Guatamala at a height of 2600 meters. Wonderful vegetables snd othe fruit also grow here.
It was market day in San Juan Comalpa, where we stopped to wander around the market. The market sold everything you could possibly need. The local women here, wore much shorter hand woven skirts than elsewhere in Guatamala. They also wear very different long aprons that have plenty of zip pckets in them; very sensible.

Just outside Antigua, hand made bricks and tiles are made. They are baked in a simple kiln, and when baked come out red. The roof tiles are shaped the way they are because originally the human thigh was used as the template, so one end is narrower than the other. This allows them to interlock.
Lunch was at a restaurant serving traditional Guatemalan food. Peter had chicken soup with vegetables and chicken and I had smokey chorizo sausages.

Lake Atitlan is beautiful!

The gardens of the hotel are amazing. Birds are everywhere.
At the bar, we were treated very rudely by the bar tender. We don't know if he thought we were ring-ins but although we have already given the hotel our credit card he instisted that we pay. We had left all our valuables in the hotel safe, expecting to pay any outstanding account on check out. The bartender was quite aggressive, making us feel like wicked school children!
