Panajachel

Panachel is the small town down the road from the hotel in which we are staying. Today was a free of guided tour day for us, so we caught a tuk-tuk to town to wander around and then have lunch. Today was again a typical tropical rainy season day; sunshine in the morning and torrential rain at about 2.30pm in the afternoon.
Panajachel is a very clean town, that was and stll is frequented by many backpackers. We had a delicious coffee in a cafe reccommended by our guide from yesterday. The cafe is run by Koreans and their choices in coffee are amazing. They roast the beans themselves and their are many varieties from which to choose. As Peter can't have caffeine, he chose a hot mint chocolate. It was a winner! I had an iced coffee with chocolate and mint - also delicious.
We walked down to the town's port from where you can catch a boat the the many other towns and villages around Lago Atitlan.
Lunch was had at Casablanca, named after the movie. Then we walked back down towards the habour where we had previously spotted a wine shop, selling a huge range if Chilean and Argentinian wines and a great selection of cheese. Fresh parmesan, crackers and red wine will be dinner tonight!

View from the port, looking towards where our hotel is located.

Looking down the main street from our lunchtime restaurant.
