Suchitoto

What a wonderful part of the world. It is very serene here with warm, friendly and welcoming people. We haved loved being here.

Today we went on a boat on the artificially created nearby lake to spot birds.

Lunch was eaten in the local market, where we were presented with a very wide array of delicious local specialities.

Later a trip to the local ecological park allowed us to meet the head ranger, a former guerilla fighter from the fairly recent civil war. A very interesting man with a genuine love for the preservation of the forest that had once offered him sanctuary from the national guard that were dropping bombs and hand grenades to rout the guerillas.
He gave us his history whilst we were in the forest. It is of course the rainy season here so it rained continuously for our walk. The path was very slippery and several stream crossings were necessary. This proved to be a challenge for Peter.

His painful knees have affected his balance.

This is us with our new friend Raphael, the ex-guerilla fighter. Our Spanish is improving. Raphael, realized that if he spoke slowly, we could most times understand him. Benjamin acted as interpreter.
